D-Link DCM-201 USB/Ethernet Cable Modem, DOCSIS 1.1 Certification Review

I used to have a cable modem that was provided by my cable company but I didn't want to pay the monthly lease fee anymore so I went out and bought this D-Link Cable Modem. I wasn't sure what all I had to do to get it to work, but when I asked a more computer knowledgable friend he said I just needed to plug it in and it will automatically configure itself.
So that's all I did. I called my cable company and told them I'd be switching modems, they wanted some long number off the back of the modem and said I was all set to go. So I plugged in the coax cable on the modem and plugged in the power. Within the next 10 seconds I was connected tot he Internet again.
Very easy.

Actiontec Ethernet Over Coax MoCA Adapter - Twin Pack Review

Actiontec Ethernet Over Coax MoCA Adapter - Twin Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My Environment:
I want to use my PS3 to access Netflix , HULU (via PlayOn) and the shows that are recorded in my PC (a combination of HD and SD). My PC is upstairs (where the cable modem is) and my TV is downstairs where i do not have any Ethernet port and rewiring is not an option in my home.
Various Methods Used for connectivity:
Tried Wireless G and N but was never able to stream anything from my PC. Then tried various power line products from Sling, Belkin (rated as 1000 MBPS) but was not satisfied. Belkin one worked quite well but was not consistent, something was interfering and impacting the performance as the output would vary wildly at different times. Then heard about MOCA technology and was initially skeptical but wanted to try it out.
Set up using Actiontec MOCA device:
Ordered these Actiontec ones as they are cheaper than Netgear ones. Received them and all the package had was the two units, two Ethernet cables, power cards and a sheet of paper with instructions. Just plugged them in with the following set up and within few min the set up was done and configured my PS3 to use wired connection.
Coax from wall --> Input of first unit ,Output of first unit --> Cable modem.(Office) and then plugged in the ethernet cable from my router to the ethernet port of first unit
Coax from wall --> Input of second unit,Output of second unit--> STB(Living Room)and then plugged in the ethernet cable from the second unit to the PS3.
Input is labeled as Coax and output is labeled as STB/TV on the two Actiontec units
So far did not see any degradation in the TV signal or the internet connection. One thing to note is, if you want to use this set up i,e use this as a pass trough for your Coax signal, you need a couple of Coax cables(F-pin) which are not included and might be better to order along with these units, if you want to do the set up right away.
Conclusion:
I did not measure the throughput and do not know if my home has any splitters or amplifiers but could see reliable connectivity and could stream HD video (only have 1080i) flawlessly,Netflix and HULU worked quite well and would recommend it to anyone who has Coax wires all around the house. I hope that the same performance continues in the future and do not have to update this review.

HP Deskjet 3000 Printer (CH393A#B1H) Review

This printer is awesome. The printing quality is great, it is small and portable and above all wireless which is nice when you don't want to have to worry about cables. The printer I had before was plugged into my router so it was kind of wireless but this one is entirely wireless so you can put it wherever you want. Set up was super fast and very easy and worked like a charm on the first try (I don't know why the previous reviewer had problem with theirs because mine worked perfectly). Overall awesome printer that I would recommend in a heart beat. Also, the ink cartridges last pretty long so it's very economical!

Asante 600N Wireless-N Router with 4-Port SmartHub Review

I like the 4 simple & clear EZ steps where my Internet dummy fellows who can all hands on without bother me. Create username and password and we do not need to worry about wifi those hi-tech crypto stuff. Never have a chance to understand which crypto is the best and why. My wife does not care. One thing I do not like is the quick guide is too simple to tell you there is a button to disable EZsetup. And it turns me to the old fashion broadband router mode(Advanced mode) to let pro guys to play with. The advanced setup is almost same as linksys, netgear. So technically, you do not need to review the manual if you know linksys well- that is good.
Other than that, if you want your tech dummy family whoever set up something for you like Xbox, or video IP, you can ask them to enter "smarthub" at any browser address bar then the web management will be shown easily. This is a great idea and you do not need to tell the 192.168.x.x to those who has no idea what it is. Or worry which IP address was changed long time ago. Giving a name to call the management software is quite a idea.
Nice distance on wifi technology. At least, I have one cover my whole house. I just leaned from tech support that this is the smallest hotspot wifi router in the planet.
Great product overall. If you want a simple life, go for this smarthub. I am sure other two models are same user interface. Have fun.

Belkin Basic Wireless USB Review

Belkin Basic Wireless USB

After reading reviews on a lot of USB wireless adapters, I came away with the idea that quality control is a real issue. No matter what brand you buy, they all have issues. I've had generally good luck with Belkin stuff, so I bought one of these to hook my HP Desktop with XP SP3 to my Palm Pixie Hotspot. Because of all the horror stories I've read, I did an image backup of my system first, but I didn't need it. I followed the directions by letting the CD do its install, then plugged in the wireless adapter when prompted. Not only did it work without a hitch, but it is slightly faster than my HP Elitebook's built-in wireless. I haven't really pushed the distance aspect yet, as my Hotspot is fairly close by. I just leave it plugged in, and connect off the bottom task bar whenever I have a need for fast Internet. They make fancier, but for what I was looking for, it works great. I might need faster when 4G comes out, but with 3G, it's simple, fast, and easy.
