Netgear WAG302NA WAG302.PROSAFE 11ABG Dual Band Wireless Access Point Review

I bought three of these and have been struggling with them for 6 weeks. One day it all works great, the next there are many dropped connections ot you can authenticate with only one device at a time: I'm using all static IP's with WPA/PSK TKIP. Even when authenticated and connected with good signal cannot reach the LAN, cannot ping anything.
The tech support is dysfunctional: on hold repeatedly, never getting a resolution. One "escalated" case took 4 weeks to get an answer and the answer is that the WAG302 is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS CE 5.0 WIRELESS DEVICES! Well, be advised, it works no better with laptops and desktops.
If you have a lot of time on your hands, then try it out. I mean a lot of time.

Cisco Aironet 1131AG - wireless access point ( AIR-LAP1131AG-A-K9 ) Review

I don't understand why people purchase enterprise level devices like this access point for their homes or apartments and complain when it doesn't work out of the box. This 1131AG is meant to be used in a networked environment, specifically in combination with a WLAN controller. When the WLAN controller is configured properly, this 1131AG will auto-configure itself as soon as it is given ethernet and broadcast all SSID's on the controller. (Note that the automatic behavior is unique to this Lightweight model, AIR-LAP1131AG - be careful when ordering.) The range on this unit is superb, and like most Cisco products, it is extremely reliable and durable. It comes with a variety of mounting plates, a bag of machine screws, power adapter (though PoE is preferred due to the size of the brick) and a user guide. I would have liked if they included wood or drywall screws because 99% of the time I am installing these on walls, but that is a small complaint. Overall this is one of the better WAP's out there for the small to medium sized business. Together with a WLAN controller like the Cisco 2106 you will enjoy a very robust and reliable WiFi network.

Cisco WAP2000 Wireless-G Access Point - POE Review

Cisco WAP2000 Wireless-G Access Point - POE

I bought this product to provide secure wireless services to our company network. I was pleasantly surprised that it has support for multiple SSIDs with tagged VLAN support (useful for creating a "guest" network for visitors, as well as a separate secure internal network). It supports WPA2-Enterprise, which I'm using together with Windows Server 2003 IAS to allow domain users to be authenticated to the network using their windows login automatically. I was fully expecting problems deploying this somewhat bleading-edge feature, but so far it's worked perfectly (aside from the hassles associated with Microsoft's poor group policy support for WPA2 in XP Pro). The unit has never requiring a restart since I installed it. The physical hardware seems well made also. I'm not using the POE support, because the range on this AP is good enough to allow it to sit in our phone room and cover the entire floor. Overall, this product feels like it's benefited from the Cisco influence, unlike some of Linksys' other recent efforts.

The WAP2000 is a Wireless Access Point ideal for small businesses that want to expand their existing wired networks or create new wireless networks for the workforce or guests. It features RangeBooster technology that is compatible to standard 802.11g but with a range up to two times farther and throughput by up to 35 faster. Unlike ordinary wireless technologies that are hampered by wireless signals that reflect off walls, ceilings, and other objects, RangeBooster uses these multiple signals with two smart receivers at each end (router or access point and client adapter) to boost range and throughput speeds. As a result, a RangeBooster solution reduces or eliminates wireless signal deadspots in offices and other buildings so users can connect to the network in more areas. The WAP2000 comes with 3 dBi antennas for increased power, also helping to extend the range of the Access Point.

TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless N Access Point TEW-638APB (Black) Review

Home networking can be a real pain especially for someone like me who knows enough to be dangerous but not enough to be a network installer. I have a wireless router burried in my basement that wasn't getting signal to my upstairs part of the house. I tried two other different products 1) two routers connected to each other and 2) a Hawking repeater. I ended up wasting a lot of time with them and they just didnt work or had compatibility issues. I took a plunge on the no brand trendnet based on this other positive review and he was 100% right. The price is 50% cheaper than the comparable Linksys N switch and does exactly as advertised. Setup took 5 minutes and I now have coverage all over my house. No issues so far.

I bought two of these, one to use as a wireless adapter and one as a repeater. My primary wireless router is a Dlink DIR-622 running the original 1.11 firmware.
Initial setup is fairly easy. The manual is TERRIBLE but you really don't need it for basic setup. Out of the box, or after a hard reset, the device is in "Gateway Mode" with it's DHCP server active and ready to hand out addresses in the 192.168.1 subnet. Connect it to a PC's ethernet port, open your browser to http://192.168.1.220 and you get the configuration screen. From there, it is easy to choose one of the other (3) modes and make a connection to your wireless network.
If you want to make additional configuration changes to other parameters, it gets harder. Once you switch from Gateway mode to one of the other (3), the device no longer acts as a DHCP server for the ethernet port; rather, it effectively becomes a device with a static IP of 192.168.1.220. To make additional configuration changes, you must open your PC's TCP/IP settings and change from DHCP (i.e., "obtain an IP address automatically") to a static address (i.e., "use the following IP address") in the 192.168.1 range. Only then can you again open your browser and use http://192.168.1.220 to access the device.
I setup the first unit in "Adapter mode", configured it for wpa2 and then connected it to my Dish Network 622 dvr. Everything connected and worked perfectly.
I have a large house with my wireless router at the North end, so signal quality at the South end of the house is poor. I configured the second wl-330ge for "Repeater mode" and placed it near the center of my house. Devices in the South end now get excellent signal quality from the centrally located wl-330ge repeater. Devices that used to get 6mbps now hit 35mbps.
Both my units came with firmware 2.0.1.8, but I noticed a newer 2.0.1.9 firmware on the ASUS web site with 11-23-2009 release date. As it mentioned a fix related to Repeater mode, I decided to download it and update both units. I then hard reset and reconfigured them. The one in Adapter mode still worked just fine. The one in Repeater mode ceased to function; devices would connect to it momentarily then lose the connection. After several hard resets and reconfiguration cycles, I gave up and flashed it back to 2.0.1.8, and it immediately started working again. If you are using Repeater mode, I recommend avoiding the 2.0.1.9 firmware.

NETGEAR WG602 54 Mbps 802.11g Wireless Access Point Review

NETGEAR WG602 54 Mbps 802.11g Wireless Access Point
Average Reviews:

I bought this item, because, on the back of the box, it shows the WG602 being used as a bridge to connect to a WGT624 access point. This is extremely misleading, and well, plain wrong, as a couple of other reviewers have pointed out. I was on the phone with extremely unhelpful tech support (that they outsourced to India, I believe), and it took several hours of run-around for the support guy to actually admit that the two products are not compatible (he had to ask someone else). Had he researched this properly in the beginning, hours would have been saved. I was eventually informed (after being told to upgrade firware, change numerous settings, etc.) that the WG602 would only bridge to another WG602. THE BACK OF THE BOX IS WRONG! Don't buy this if you're looking for a bridge that's compatible with any other AP.

The NETGEAR WG602 54 Mbps 802.11g Wireless Access Point lets you easily set up a wireless network in your home so you can share a single internet connection with everyone in your household at speeds up to 54 Mbps. Note that to share an internet connection you will need a router into which you can plug the WG602 access point. If you do not have a router, consider NETGEAR\'s Wireless-G Router WGR614."
Easy Setup The WG602 makes it easy for even a novice to set up a wireless network: just plug the included Ethernet cable from your LAN into the device and insert the included CD into any computer on the network, which will provide step-by-step instructions. The WG602 offers a myriad of placement options by including a stand for vertical placement and slots on the bottom for mounting on a wall or ceiling. The default 2 dBi omnidirectional antenna can be removed and you can install an external antenna most suited for your needs onto the standard SMA connector.
The WG602 employs a web-based interface for configuration, allowing you to adjust settings such as the beacon interval, RTS threshold, and DTIM interval. The firmware is also upgradeable via the web interface so you can be sure your access point will always be up-to-date.
Fast and Secure Supporting the 802.11g standard, the NETGEAR WG602 offers data speeds of up to 54 Mbps, making it possible to share a broadband internet connection, stream music without hiccups, watch videos with less load time, and videoconference without problems. Downloading files is up to five times faster than it was with 802.11b. If you still have computers that use 802.11b, don't fret as the access point is backwards compatible with the older wireless standard and can be set so all your computers can connect to the network and the WG602 will automatically figure out the connection type and work accordingly.
The WG602 offers many security options to ensure your data is private. Both 40/64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption is available, as well as Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA2-PSK). You can also use MAC address authentication to allow only authorized users onto the network.
Bridge and Repeater Mode In addition to functioning as an access point, the WG602 can also be used as a bridge and as a repeater. Used as a bridge, the device allows you to connect two LANS wirelessly; as a repeater, your wireless signal's range is extended so even the remote corners of your home or office can be covered.
The NETGEAR WG602 54 Mbps Wireless Access Point is backed by a 1-year warranty.

TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless-N Travel Router Kit TEW-654TR (Black) Review

TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless-N Travel Router Kit TEW-654TR (Black)

I travel a lot and spend way too much time in hotels where the only internet connection they have is a short wired connection sitting near some uncomfortable desk. I used to carry around a longer wire and a connector so that I could sit wherever I wanted in the room, but it is just a pain to do so.
A few years ago I found a solution in a small wireless AP sold by Asus (the WL-300 and later the WL-330g) which I used for a number of years with lots of success. However, I finally decided it was time to upgrade to 802.11n.
A bit of searching/comparing brought me to the TrendNet 654TR. Ordered one from Amazon and had it in my hands in a couple of days.
The device is much smaller and sleeker than the Asus model. Setup was easy to follow and configure (though I would enter a small complaint that I had to configure the "router" mode settings and the "AP" mode settings individually -- when I switched from "router" to "AP" it was as if I had gone back to factory defaults -- even the encryption keys & wireless configuration had to be configured again). This is just a minor complaint, easily dealt with and for many people, one they would never run into.
I've used the device at home and in several hotels on the road to great success. Rather than lugging the included AC power adapter, I simply use my iPhone USB charging block along with the included USB power adapter and I can power the unit with my little white apple block.
So now I carry this device with me on all my trips and use it here/there.
Very satisfied. If you're looking for a portable AP to carry around with you, this is it!
