Uniden DECT2085-3 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone/Answering System with Two Extra Handsets and Chargers Review

I've had 2 good Unidens in the past, I was never too thrilled with my current 2.4GHz VTech system, and I have TWO different friends with 5.8GHz Panasonic's that they are ready to use for shooting practice...
I was therefore very careful in my new purchase and I've tested every aspect of this system in the last 2 weeks - it passes with flying colors!
- Most importantly, this 1.9GHz system imparts no interference with my wireless router, parked just 3 feet away... and while it doesn't penetrate a metal garage door if you're standing right in front of it, I can walk out the front door and talk clearly halfway past my THIRD neighbor's house.
- These NiMH batteries have given me 4 days off the charger WITH 4 hours of talktime, and the charging seems to be 'smart' because they never get very warm, and get cool when fully charged. Oh, and the the handsets have actual battery gauges instead of just beeps to tell you you're about to lose the call...
- The speakerphones are quite good in both the handsets and the base-station, and when you've left the handset in another room you'll wonder how you ever lived without Caller ID and dialing on the base.
- All the various volumes and ringers are adequately loud and I find most all the controls and menu functions intuitive. The single exception is the 'hold' function, which ought to be a single key-press, but requires pushing Intercom, then Select and then Hang-up to stop everything from ringing... I also love (maybe common nowadays) the answering machine message indicators on the handsets and the ability to both retrieve messages from the handsets and also to monitor an incoming message.
As you can tell, I'm VERY happy with my new system, and I hope it lasts a long time (like my previous Unidens...)

Finally, personalized ringers let you know who's calling before you pick up the phone. Should your family grow, this system easily expands to up to six handsets. About DECT Technology Advanced DECT 6.0 technology, or Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications, operates on the newly released 1.9 GHz frequency band that was recently allocated to support cordless telephony. Uniden DECT 6.0 incorporates unique "listen before transmit" technology that avoids interference with many household products, such as baby monitors, microwaves and WiFi (which operate on frequencies like 2.4 GHz). As a result, DECT phones offer consumers enhanced voice clarity and crystal clear digital sound quality. DECT 6.0 technology also offers higher security and voice protection, as well as a longer battery and battery standby life than existing 2.4 GHZ or 5.8 GHz phones. The DECT2085-3 is backed by a one-year limited warranty.

I had to buy a new answering machine because my former, an AT& T digital model finally was biting the dust; it was almost 15 years old! I did some research on digital answering machines, and decided that it's be best to get one with a handset.
I love all the features on it as it suits my needs and more:
*The answering device is very clear; so far all messages have been recorded with time & date with clarity. The buttons on the answering machine is user friendly.
*The speaker phone and intercom allows me to buzz my teenage daughter in the lower level of the house instead of shouting.
*The handset, despite it being made of plastic, feels substantial and looks stylish. The orange backlit light is pleasant and useful when dialing in the dark. Voice clarity is great; I have set it on voice enhancer and I think its like having the person you're talking to almost be in the next room.
*The settings are easy to follow in the manual. There aren't so many bells and whistles as well as tech stuff that would drive me to flush the manual, and return the phone.
*The phone and answering device is compact and I like the silver and grey coloring; it has a rich stylish look and doesn't take up so much room.
I would have given this phone 5 stars. My only complaint is that the buttons on the handset are really tiny, and I find myself reaching for my reading glasses to look at what I'm doing. The hanset itself is on the smallish side but again, I think time will help me adjust to its size.
I think, though, that over time, I will naturally get use to the buttons . Its only been a week since I have had the phone and already I am used to the on and off buttons without having to eyeball them.
I purchased the phone at Best Buy for $10 more than what Amazon is offering because I had to replace my former dying machine right away.
I bought this phone because I only needed a certain amount of items on it. I didn't need the speaker phone but I am glad I have it because its a great feature to have. I think that when a phone has too many features on it, it gets complicated and tends to break easily. Overall, I am really happy with this phone.

Netgear Dual Mode Cordless Phone with Skype(SPH200D) Review

Netgear Dual Mode Cordless Phone with Skype(SPH200D)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using this phone for little over two months and really like it. Before, I couldn't warm up to using Skype because I didn't want to be tied to my computer. Now with this phone I'm using it now for all of my outgoing (SkypeOut) calls. My long distance bill has fallen to zero and I've reduced the number of cell minutes as well.
There is practically no setup. I just plugged the base unit into my router, and it connected automatically to my network. I did have to punch in my Skype name and password on the numeric keypad, but it turns out that I could have done that easily through a web browser - the base unit has a configuration page similar to other Netgear routers. Once my name and password were in, I could start calling.
The phone displays all of the contacts that you have previously set up with Skype. In fact, I recommend using Skype on your computer to do all of the setup - it's just easier that way. The phone even shows the amount of Skype credits that I have.
The voice quality is great, but there is a slight delay - similar to what you get when your overseas call is routed through a satellite. I like the fact that the phone comes with a standard 1/8-inch headset jack - I use a headset for most of my calls.
As far as wireless range, I've been able to range throughout my house with no discernable dropouts. It's seems to get better range than my 2.4GHz cordless phone and my WIFI.
So the bottom line is: I'm happy with this phone, happy that it's Skype, and I plan to keep using it.

Your internet connection can easily become a phone line, allowing you to make free, or very cheap, calls worldwide. The Netgear SPH-200D Cordless Phone with Skype takes all the hassle out of the process. You don't need to install any software, or even turn on your PC. All you have to do is plug the Cordless Base Station into your internet router and start using Skype's worldwide internet phone service to talk to your friends and relations wherever they may roam. And if that's not enough, the SPH-200D also replaces your land line phone. Just plug the base station into any active phone jack and it becomes a traditional cordless phone as well.
Three Phones in OneThere are three ways to use the SPH-200D. For no cost at all you can make Skype-to-Skype calls anywhere in the world. Skype software is pre-loaded on the phone, so you can start calling any other Skype users at their computers or at similar Skype phones right out of the box. An intuitive on-screen menu lets you see which Skype friends are online and available to call. Push a button and you're making a free domestic or international call.
Your second option costs only pennies per minute and includes no monthly fees. With SkypeOut you buy phone time in advance, then use the internet to make calls to cell or land line phones all over the world. You can also get a SkypeIn account for a small fee, which gives you an internet phone number, allowing friends to call you from any phone, anywhere, anytime. With the SPH-200D you can do all of this without fooling with software or plugging headsets into your PC. It's all there in the palm of your hand.
And of course the SPH-200D is also a traditional cordless phone. With the latest cordless technology, DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications), the handset delivers incredible range, clear voice quality, and a full menu of digital features. You can even add up to three additional handsets, which allows you to replace all the old-fashioned phones in your home with one that truly belongs in the 21st century.
What's in the BoxCordless phone with Skype, rechargeable battery, cordless base station, power adapters for the charging cradle and base station, setup guide, and warranty card.
For calls made through Skype and/or the SkypeOut service. Terms and conditions of the Skype services are subject to change at any time in the sole discretion of Skype Limited

The battle between WiFi and wireless telephones.
We had a mixture of 2.4 gigahertz phones for years that coexisted peacefully with our old wireless G router. Well, the router died and we needed a new one. The newest technology for wireless is "N" with Mimo Technology, which supports both N and G wireless networks. So, of course we buy. After all, now is the future, right?
Mimo WiFi uses several different radio frequency channels (in the 2.4 gigahertz range for G networks) at the same time to assure an optimal radio signal to your WiFi laptops (in our case, G). This works great for the WiFi network, BUT......every time our telephones rang...Poof, the WiFi Signal got scrambled and we lost the network. We tried setting different channels on the phones and the router, nothing worked.
So being in the market for a major upgrade with our now antiquated phone system, we bought this Dect. 6.0 system that uses the 1.9 gigahertz frequency.
First of all..no interference in the WiFi network....NONE!
There are also a few features that I like.
We can now communicate and transfer calls with each other over 5 acres of land with complete security.
Talking Caller ID enables me to save a few steps and decide if I want to answer the call.
Since Vonage (my phone service) does not have specific call block, this phone can block certain pesky incoming calls and give the abusive callers a busy signal to listen to. This is a great feature and the only way Panasonic could improve on it, is to give us a choice between the busy signal or tones that indicate that the phone has been disconnected.
I can't say anything about the voice mail except that you can turn it off quite easily. We use the Vonage voice mail and are quite happy with it.
We are easily adding to the phone book as calls are coming in. I think it is a bit of a hassle to add them in manually.
Different ring tones are nice, and sound pretty. All of us have set up different ring tones and it is quite a symphony in the house when all the phones play their distinct melodies.
Each phone has a speaker phone and my friends can't tell I am using it.
Only the main base need to be plugged into a backup power supply if you want to do that.
All in all, I am very satisfied and am going to add 2 more phones to my 4 phone system.
12/16/2010 Edited to say that phones are still working, but I did have to replace the rechargeable batteries on one of them. The plus side to this is that they are easily replaceable; two Triple A (AAA), Nickle Metal Hydrides!

Purchased and installed about 6 months ago. Stationed overseas so Vonage keeps us sane. The service has been great but the phone died. After troubleshooting with Vonage over the landline phone, they determined the power supply was bad (the plug that goes into the wall). They said they would replace it. 1 month later, no plug. Called and they said they didn't show it was ever mailed. Said they would mail (again). After another month, no show. Took plug to electrician friend, said plug was fine. We took the box apart and the circuit cards were corroded with a white powder which he said was an indicator it got wet or was in a very humid environment for some time. Probably sat in warehouse months before shipping out to us. Ordered Linksys Phone Adapter which uses regular house phone and been gravy ever since. Should have known better, and linksys was cheaper.

Panasonic KX-TG7533B DECT 6.0 PLUS Expandable Digital Cordless Phone and Answering System with 3 Handsets Review

Panasonic KX-TG7533B DECT 6.0 PLUS Expandable Digital Cordless Phone and Answering System with 3 Handsets
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Panasonic KX-TG7533B DECT 6.0 PLUS Expandable Digital Cordless Answering System with 3 Handsets largely because of my past experience with Pansonic Quality and the features listed. I was especially interested in the large keys, large high contrast LCD display and in general the well thought out layout of the units.
Usually before I make a purchase, I generally research it fairly well. As this product was relatively new when I purchased it several weeks ago, there were only two other reviews at Amazon and really not a lot of other user information else where. With all other cordless phones I've used in the past, I have always experienced difficulty with the small, low contrast LCD display (without reading glasses) and quite often with the low call volume and limited range. Since I have also experienced frequent disconnection of my Wi-Fi laptop internet connection when using other cordless phones anywhere in my home, I was very excited to hear about the DECT 6.0 advantages.
The Amazon vendor we brought from (Sixth Avenue Electronics)was excellent to deal with, providing the lowest price we found. Shipment of the units was very rapid (even earlier than indicated for UPS ground) and the unit arrived in excellent condition. Following the instructions I let all the handset charge for 7 hours to obtain a full charge and then did the set up which was very simple and went without a hitch. I was absolutely delighted with every aspect of the phones. It was by far and a way the easiest to read and listen to of any cordless phone I have ever used. We received many compliments about the clarity of the calls we made and the calls we received so far are also excellent. I am happy to say that have not experienced the phones causing interfence problems with my lap top or anything else.
The range of these phones is excellent, I am able to make and receive high quality calls from any place in my house or yard, and to date I have been able to use the phones reliably outside my house from more than 300 ft from the base (without the use of the optional extender). While I haven't used the phone for more than several weeks, at this point both the battery life and standby time have exceeded the rated specs.
I had read some criticism on similar earlier models that you had to go through several menu layers for some features. While this is true for some features, it is not at all difficult or confusing. In fact, Panasonic has optional simple numeric codes you can key in to get to the features even faster if you wish. Another minor criticism we read about the phones was the limited ring tones available (about 5 tones and 5 melodies, I believe). While the ones provided were basic and not as extensive as you might find on a typical cell phone, we found several that we could live with and were quite adequate for our needs.
In addition to the features mentioned so far there are really many things both my wife and I really like about this phone. One of these things is information sharing. So for example, you enter into memory in one handset caller information for someone, and it is immediately available for your other handsets. We really enjoy the intercom and call conferencing features. They are very easy to use and work well. The caller block feature is also very easy to use. Since I presently have voice mail service with my telephone service provider, I was also very pleasantly surprised to find how easy and convenient the phone is to bypass the built in answering machine when I want to. With a single button I can simply retrieve voice messages. We also enjoy the use of the silent mode feature of the phones, where we can program the times during which a given handset ringer will ring. All in all, this is by far and away the highest quality and most useful cordless phone I have used to date.

Siemens S45 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone Extension Handset Review

Siemens S45 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone Extension Handset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased 3 of the S45 handsets and a S450 base approx 2 months ago and every phone has performed flawlessly. Before buying the system I read reviews of numerous phones, went to stores to hold the handsets of many of the phones, and reviewed the literature on the manufacturers' websites. In the end, I bought this phone with the belief that it would probably have issues, but I could always return it to Amazon if it did. Needless to say, the only complaint is from my wife who initially complained that the phones were so robust that it was difficult to figure them out -- while this may seem true, think of these phones as a close relation to a cell phone.
Regarding the complaints I have read; let me address the following ones:
1. ISSUE: It is impossible to switch from 1 call to another with call waiting -- you have to hang up on the existing caller. SOLUTION: Simple, depress the "Flash" button on the lower left corner of the phone and easily switch between 1 caller and another. Additionally, this phone has the ability to take an incoming call and immediately conference it in with your existing call -- a great feature if your usage is SOHO.
2. ISSUE: When using with a DSL line the quality of the call is sub par. SOLUTION: Any phone that is used with a DSL line is suppose to be used in conjunction with a DSL phone line filter -- these should be used with every phone jack which is utilized throughout a home.
3. ISSUE: Cannot mute a caller, rather the mute operation places the person on hold. SOLUTION: This is a true shortcoming of a phone, but not a problem for me. Whenever I need to mute a call it is usually because I am multitasking and when multitasking I always wear a headset, so I just mute the headset and viola, nobody can hear me but I can hear them.
4. ISSUE: A standard headset does not work on the phone. SOLUTION: I do not know what the problem is since I read the manual and a Plantronics headset is approved for use with the phone. While the approved headset is not easily found here, I have 3 different type Plantronics headsets and all work flawlessly. One recommendation, though, the sound quality of this phone is better than anything you have probably ever used (this goes for outgoing voice too), as such, you need to purchase a headset that has a microphone with adjustable volume and use the lowest setting. Otherwise, the person on the other end may complain that your voice is gargled.
5. ISSUE: The phone is light and cheap feeling. SOLUTION: I do not know about you, but I do not want to carry around a 5 lb. metal phone just because it feels substantial. When I am on the move in my home I like to clip the phone to me and the lighter the better. With reference to feeling cheap, the phone is well made, has solid keys and a color screen -- ergo, I do no see anything "cheap" about it.
6. ISSUE: The buttons often miss or skip numbers. SOLUTION: If you are used to a cheap phone, then you will have this problem -- a cheap phone has keys that can be depressed with barely touching the pad. A well made phone, on the other hand, requires you to fully depress the key pad. Does this mean you cannot type numbers as quickly ... the answer is "yes" if you insight on wanting to only brush your hand against the key pad rather than fully depressing the key.
7. ISSUE: "This has to be the most frustrating phone ever when it comes to messages. You are forced to listen to the female voice say the date and time (Which is visible right on the screen, so no need to say it), and then to skip to the next message you HAVE to hear all of it again. It would have been much better to be able to skip the voice over or make it an option to turn it off." SOLUTION: This sounds like a user voicemail issue as the phone does not speak, maybe some other Siemens does. It does, however, allow you to set the "1" key to speed dial your home voicemail -- just like your cell number. And you can program in pauses, so when depressing and holding the "1" key or checking voicemails from the blinking voicemail indicator, you need only press one button.
8. ISSUE: The message light does not work. SOLUTION: The phones have a message light and it works -- I have used the phone in our house and recommended it to a friend in another state who uses another carrier (between the 2 of us we have 7 phones and all work). Make certain your carrier provides the service as some do not and some carrier is some areas offer this as an option.
9. ISSUE: The built in clock is inaccurate. SOLTUION: I have none as this is true. For some unknown reason Siemens decided not to allow the phone to obtain time stamp information from the incoming calls, so the phone loses time -- about 1 minute every 5 to 7 days. Does this annoy me enough to not buy the phone: "No"? My $3,000 computer system does not automatically update its clock from the internet, though it is more accurate. Needless to say, I would not junk my computer; besides, when was the last time you relied solely on your home phone to tell time???
In short, this phone has more capabilities than I can list here. It does take some time to figure it all out, but once you have you will wonder how you ever lived with another phone. Lastly, the audio quality of the phone rivals anything you have every used before.

Panasonic DECT 6.0 3-Handset Expandable Digital Cordless Phone with Answering System and ChoiceMail (KX-TG7433B) (Black) Review

Panasonic DECT 6.0 3-Handset Expandable Digital Cordless Phone with Answering System and ChoiceMail (KX-TG7433B) (Black)
Average Reviews:

After my last Panasonic DECT 6.0 3-phone system inexplicably stopped working, I sought a similar replacement set. I've generally found Panasonic phones to be very reliable and figured my last purchase was simply a lemon (occasionally happens to the best). I ended up purchasing the KX-TG7433. The first thing I have to say is that the phone is gorgeous. The black shiny finish is much more sleek and attractive than the previous bland beige Panasonic I owned. The display is also much larger and vivid with a high-contrast black on gray LCD with large easily readable characters. The LCD and keypad are both well illuminated when any button is pushed. The time and date are prominently displayed on the LCD in standby mode. When you have a missed call or message waiting, it is also clearly displayed on the handset LCD, as well as a flashing amber LED on top of the handset. The set comes with three handsets, a base with built-in digital answering machine, and two charging bases for the extra handsets. In addition to the time and date, the LCD also displays icons for phone book, menu, and redial above their respective buttons. The center menu joystick is nice and intuitive, but it also brings about my only gripe. On my previous Panasonic phones, the most important buttons (caller ID, voice mail, redial, and phone book) were all one touch access. On this model, you have a few one touch items (mentioned above), but most features have to be accessed through the menu. Phone book items entered on one handset are automatically shared with the other handsets.
Voice quality is excellent as usual for Panasonic. Although I personally would prefer the volume to be a tad bit louder at the higher end, both the handset and speaker phone have adequate loudness and clarity for most people. There are no sudden drop outs or other sound issues like I occasionally experienced with the prior DECT 6.0 phone. The phone features talking caller ID, which is really cool. A female robotic voice will announce (or sometimes comically try her best to announce), the name of the caller (the voice cannot be changed, like on a GPS). The announcement is loud and clear and really comes in handy because you can decide whether or not to answer the phone if you are away from the handset, without disrupting whatever you're doing. The voice will also function as an alarm clock and even alert you when the battery is low. This model also has a new feature called "Choice Mail", which allows you to view caller ID info for pending messages and selectively choose and play them in any order. Sadly, this feature only works with the built in digital answer machine. If you subscribe to your telephone service provider's voice mail service, as I do, you're out of luck. Panasonic did not completely leave telecom voice mail service subscribers out of the equation. There are separate icons in the menu for the built-in answer device and subscription voice mail service. Like previous Panasonic models, the handset will automatically dial your voice mail service access number if you select the option. If you do plan to use the built-in answer service, it offers 18 minutes of record time and the choice mail feature, so that's a major plus. However, I can't comment on the built-in voice mail quality because I don't use the feature. The phone also features a privacy mode which allows you to choose periods when all, or select, phones will alert you with visual lights instead of an audible ring, and call block mode which allows you to block unwanted numbers from ringing. Battery life is better than average. Even with all the extra bells and whistles like talking caller ID and the larger LCD, I still get basically the same battery life, (approx 2 days between charges with several hrs accumulated talk time), as my previous phone which had a smaller dimmer LCD and non-illuminated keypad. I believe I can get even more battery life, because I have yet to hear the robotic battery alarm. However, I tend to recharge when the meter reaches one bar, just to be on the safe side. This model still uses the AAA size Ni-MH batteries.
I am really happy with this phone, especially at the current price. It's an unbeatable bargain. It has features galore, good sound quality, solid build, and a gorgeous design.

IPEVO S0-20 WiFi Phone for Skype Review

IPEVO S0-20 WiFi Phone for Skype
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been using the Ipevo So-20 Skypephone for over a week now (mine came directly from Taiwan) and I am amazed at how well it works.
Previously I had tried and returned both the Belkin and Netgear Wi-Fi phones because they were full of bugs, the battery life was ridiculous and call quality inferior to Skype calls from a PC. I eventually settled for the now discontinued Linksys CIT-400 and I am quite satisfied with it except that battery life is also poor and it requires an interface (access point)to be connected to your modem/router.
The Ipevo SO-20 is a totally autonomous Wi-Fi Skypephone, all you need is a wireless network (B or G). Compared to its predecessors the Ipevo has the following advantages:
-Li-ion battery: the SO-20 can last up to 3 days off the charger on stand-by, but count on a couple of days between charges in normal use.
-Wi-Fi connection manager: the Ipevo allows you to manage your wireless access by storing favorite networks and their access keys. You can also decide whether it can connect to non-saved networks or only to preferred ones. It supports WEP, WPA and WPA2 encryption (I just think you cannot use it when you have to log-in on a network through a web page, but check the Skype site, I think they have a flat-rate package to access all Boingo hot-spots worldwide).
Wireless range is pretty decent, I never went below 3 bars (out of 5) inside my home.
-Very modern and clean design and the feel is not that of cheap plastic. The screen is very legible, the keypad is backlit, you can adjust the volume with 2 dedicated keys on the side, like on a regular cell phone and there is a headset jack. You can charge the Ipevo either directly from the charger via a mini-USB connection (handy if you need to use it while charging), or by dropping it on the supplied cradle.
Overall the Ipevo SO-20 is an amazing Wi-Fi Skypephone and I highly recommend it.

Operate via a Wi-Fi wireless Internet connection. This gives you the freedom to make Skype calls when you connect to a secure or open Wi-Fi network (that does not require browser-based login or authentication). No computer required. It is a much simpler and comfortable way to make and receive Skype calls, without having to sacrifice the benefits of Skype's free and low-cost services.

Alfa Color Wireless VoIP Internet IP Wifi Phone Review

Update 3/22: The phone locks up and does not function, it seems fine, ad your voip number will ring, but the handset just sits there silently... we are unable to use these phones as they are not reliable enough.
-------------
I wanted a phone for SIP trunking, not for Skype.
That is exactly what i got, this phone does not do Skype as far as i can tell and i am happy about that.
The phone has a very strong wifi receiver, it picked up far more wifi points around my home than any other wifi device i have.
The setup was a bit complex, but in the end it was not too bad, just that VoIP has confusing temrs that seem to overlap one another for settings.
The call clarity is GREAT, the ear peice is perhaps just slightly tinny but overall i rate this unit as being quite good.
It does show some signs of being a cheaper no name brand, the display flashes in places during certain menu surfing, but it's nothing really just trivial. I do wonder though if it wil last through the ages (haha). For what we wanted, it is perfect. I will order 3 or 4 more so that we cover all our needs and have a couple of spares waiting.
It's a nice size, i don't want some nano phone anyway, and pretty light.
I use it with callcentric and it works just fine.

Vonage VDV21-CVR - Wireless VoIP phone - DECT 6.0 - 2 lines + 2 additional handset(s)

I've used Vongage for several years and have always been very pleased with the service. People say I sound very crisp & clear, and I've never had any other problems of any kind.
I had a previous set of Vonage cordless phones that lasted so long all of the batteries needed replaced. Rather than spend $75 on batteries, I bought this new kit. The phones are a bit smaller and I liked the orange bright display.
These phones are essentially plug & play. Once your Vonage account is set up with the ID of the system, everything else is easy. One phone gets plugged in to the vonage box that plugs into the internet and the rest operate cordlessly from that home unit.
These units have a variety of volumes & ringtones. I'm not a huge fan of talking on the telephone, but these make it bearable. Completely satisfied & recommended.

Panasonic DECT 6.0-Series Dual-Handset Cordless Phone System with Answering System (KX-TG1032S) Review

Panasonic DECT 6.0-Series Dual-Handset Cordless Phone System with Answering System (KX-TG1032S)
Average Reviews:

I got this phone about a week ago in order to replace a 2.4 panasonic that died -some numbers were not dialing and finally battery hookup broke off- In general I like the phone but it has some major things I don't like.
Pros: Easy to set up. You get 2 phones with 1 phone jack. Speakers are great! (unlike with my old phone people don't complain when I use them). You can hear answering machines messages from either remote set. Phonebook sharing. You can conference between phones and call each other (big hit with my kids).
Cons:
1. There is something wrong with the volume (I read complains about it in reviews in Circuit city and thought maybe person had hearing problem... but no, they were right). Let me explain: the volume goes up and down by itself for no good reason. One phone call you hear great and next one is really low so you need to adjust volume and it goes up and then down on its own again -sometimes during the same call while you are talking- .... You can live with it, you adjust volume but I don't particularly like playing with volume every other call! For me it is really a pain!
2. Answering machine base don't display the number of messages you have (it has no lcd screen!). No talking id or any other fancy stuff either.
3. When you play messages from answering machine the sound is a little boxy, robot like...not clear. This does not happen if you hear messages from the phones themselves.
In conclusion I would say this is an all right phone, I expected better... but it is also not very expensive and it has the latest technology. I guess now I know why some 5.8 panasonic phones (previous technology) were more expensive than this one... you get what you pay.

Cisco-Linksys CIT400 Dual-Mode Internet Telephony Kit with Integrated Skype Review

Cisco-Linksys CIT400 Dual-Mode Internet Telephony Kit with Integrated Skype
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With the CIT400 Linksys comes very close to having a 5 star gadget. I'll break my review into several parts.
Setup: 5 stars - it couldn't have been easier. I plugged the base station into my home network and turned the power on. It was that simple within a few minutes I was making calls. I already had a Skype account so I'm not sure how simple it is the sign-up via the phone.
Design: 3 stars - the phone feels like it was designed by a router company. Nothing really stands out in the design of the phone or the software interface. It's pretty functional but pales in comparison to the UI on most cell phones. Several things that could be better with the UI (and are probably fixable with a firmware upgrade): CallerID doesn't reference your contacts (like most cell phones). When phone numbers in the call log don't fit on the screen they go into a scroll mode, making them impossible to read. The phone doesn't register when another phone in the house has answered a call thus placing them under 'missed calls', my 15 year old at&t cordless phone somehow manages to do this. There is no browser interface to the phone - it would be nice to configure it this way since it is a network device. It's difficult to change Skype accounts quickly. Don't get me wrong the phone is quite functional, but many aspects of it could have been executed better.
Quality: 4 stars - overall I've been quite pleased with the quality of the Skype calls. They sometimes suffer from a delay (thus not 5star) but are good enough to replace my long distance company.
Service: 1 star - I'm probably being harsh but in today's connected world I consider it very bad form for high tech companies to not have employees that care enough to read and respond to their own online forums. I own other gadgets, like a Tivo and Roku Soundbridge, where I can find pretty much the answer to anything by reading the product forum hosted on the company web site. This is mainly because those companies have employees who seem to want to connect with their customers. It makes sense - it's an inexpensive way to support a product. In the case of the CIT400 (and other Linksys phones) the forum stinks. I have yet to see a knowledgable representative of Linksys post there. It wouldn't take a lot of effort and to me shows a lack of pride in the product.
Skype service isn't any better. When I tried to see if anything could be done to improve the delay issues I was having on some calls, I exchanged a frustrating set of emails with Skype service asking me to replace the drivers on my sound card and making sure the microphone on my PC wasn't as fault. In other words they kept sending me pre-formulated canned repsonses.

The Linksys CIT400 Dual-Mode Cordless Phone with Skype is part of the iPhone family of products that use the Internet to enhance the way you communicate. The CIT400 is a full-featured cordless phone that provides an easy way to take advantage of Skype Internet calling as well as place calls over your normal phone line (PSTN) from a single device. No PC required! Just sign into your Skype account from the handset, and your contacts and their availability are displayed on your color screen. Advanced DECT cordless technology won’t interfere with 802.11 wireless networks. Dual-Mode capability lets you choose whether to make calls over a standard telephone line or with Skype. Just select who you want to talk to from your contact list on your handset and get ready to talk.
Of course, the handset supports SkypeOut dialing as well as your Skype contact list display. It rings when you have a Skype or SkypeIn or standard telephone call coming in, and shows the caller's ID on the screen. The handset also supports call waiting and Skype's optional voicemail service. When you're on a call, you can hit the mute button for privacy, or use the speakerphone function to let everyone join in. Other features include polyphonic MIDI ringer melodies on the handset and voice encryption for maximum security. You'll also enjoy 120 hours of standby time and six hours talk time on the handset's rechargeable battery.
The Linksys CIT400 also allows you to choose to make calls to other Skype users or over your existing standard telephone line. You'll get the convenience of a cordless phone and all its features, plus the high-quality voice reception integrated right into your Skype handset--no computer is required.
Long Range, Clear Sound, and Minimal Interference Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication (DECT) technology enables long range, great security, and incredible call clarity. Operating at 1900MHz, the CIT400 uses a different wavelength than the crowded 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz frequencies used by most cordless phones. So it won’t interfere with wireless networks such as 802.11b or 802.11g Wi-Fi.
Easy Setup The included Quick Start Guide walks you through the easy steps to setup your new dual-mode phone. Skype is already installed on the base station. Plug in the cables and sign into your account.
What is Skype? Skype is a little piece of software that lets you make free calls to your friends all over the world. With an Internet connection and Skype in use at both ends, you can call anyone, anywhere in the world, for free! And with the optional SkypeOut service, you can make low cost calls to traditional landline or mobile phones worldwide at local rates.
The CIT400 has Skype software embedded in its cordless base station. Plug the integrated Ethernet port into your home network and use Skype without needing to ever turn on your computer.
What's in the Box Handset, 2 AA NiMH batteries, charger, base station, 2 power adapters, RJ-11 cable, RJ-45 cable, quick installation, and user guide on CD.

Siemens Gigaset Digital Cordless Phone with Hybrid IP/Landline Calling (A580IP) Review

Siemens Gigaset Digital Cordless Phone with Hybrid IP/Landline Calling (A580IP)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am reasonably technical and run a VOIP PBX for our small business with several different providers, IP Phones and gateways. This seemed like a nice addition where cordless IP phones are needed. I have almost returned this several times because of the UI and contact import issues, however I am keeping it in hope of an updated firmware release.
Pros -
Good voice quality
Register multiple VOIP Providers
Price is right for an expandable VOIP based ATA and handset
Cons -
Handset Interface and Features are a mess to use - Siemens could learn something from other cordless handset manufactures
Vcard contact import is a nightmare
Can't seem to remove internal Gigaset setting/provider
Web interface is acceptable If you do the upgrade... if not it is so slow you can' use it.
No Headset Jack (are you kidding me?)
I want to like it... but not quite prime time.

Uniden DECT 6.0 Silver Cordless Digital Answering System with Caller ID and Four Handsets (DECT1580-4) Review

Uniden DECT 6.0 Silver Cordless Digital Answering System with Caller ID and Four Handsets (DECT1580-4)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have the DECT1580-3 version (3 handsets). My wife and I love it. The range and sound is much better than our 900Mhz and 2.4Ghz phones. Plus at 1.9Ghz these phones no longer interfere with WiFi.
Pros:
*Only one phone jack needed for all phones (great for Vontage or such)
*Great speakerphone really useful with dial-up "customer" service
*Can name each handset, so one can xfer/page by their name/location
*One phone book for all phones (or separate, if desired)
*Lighted keypad
*Number of messages counter on base
*New message light (LED) on phone
*Listen to recorded and screen live incoming messages from any phone
*Easy to add extra handsets as needed (like DWX207 Waterproof Handset)
Cons (all minor gripes):
*Single voice mail box
*No keypad/speakerphone on base
*No headset jacks
*Old style NiCd Batteries instead of better NiMh or Lion
*Base wall mount bracket not included, extra handsets not wall mountable
Overall I would strongly recommend this Uniden Dect6.0 phone.
