Lenovo ThinkPad SL510 28479XU 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black) Review

Lenovo ThinkPad SL510 28479XU 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a long history with ThinkPads at work. As my company's standard laptop, I have had the priveledge to use a IBM ThinkPad T20, IBM ThinkPad T42, and a Lenovo ThinkPad T61. all have been bulletproof and I have always said that ThinkPads are the only PC laptops I would buy for myself. At home, I use Macs as my primary computers, but with Windows 7, and my aging home-built PCs, I figured it was time to buy a new PC.
You may or may not be familiar with ThinkPads. Relatively bland design and always encased in a black enclosure, these laptops have a reputation in the business community. It is much like the reputation Macs have, in that you may pay a little more, but you also get a little more in terms of build quality.
So about this SL510. It is a ThinkPad at an affordable price. While that is true, the price is higher than you would pay for current laptops from other manufacturers for similar, or even more current hardware. For example, there are newer models with Core I3 and Core I5 chips for less money from other manufacturers. Knowing this, and weighing it against my history with ThinkPads, I still chose the ThinkPad.
My initial impressions after one hour of use:
This laptop is very wide. It is wider than my T61. The difference between 15.4 and 15.6 screens is very noticeable.
The "pencil eraser" pointer is very sensitive and sometimes registers unintentional clicks. I am finding this a little annoying and am still trying to find the settings where I can turn off using the pointer as a clicking input. I want to use it to move the mouse pointer around, but I do not want to use it to left click or selections. I prefer the pointer over the trackpad, which has changed dramatically. There is a strange texture on trackpad. It almost looks like perforations. It enables you to feel the trackpad without looking at it, but this has never really been an issue for me in the past. I'd switch back to the traditional trackpad materials if I were Lenovo.
There is no cd included. You must create your own restore diskfrom the Lenovo utilities installed.
This laptop has not discovered my 5GHz wireless-N network. The wireless card is an Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN. After some research, a forum post indicated that this card only supports wireless-N over the 2.4GHz frequency. While I can change my 2.4 GHZ band to Mixed G/N on my D-Link Dual Band router, I may just live with this laptop's limitation for now. When you first boot up, an install wizard includes options to install Diskeeper 2009 (a nice option), Norton Security 2009 (which wait suntil after you register to tell you that you are signing up for their subscription service after 30 days of use), and several ads for Net-zero, Microsoft Office, Lenovo Online Backup, and Identity Guard (if you register with Lenovo). There was an on-screen note that said you could still register and skip the Identity Guard software. I skipped this altogether.
The Lenovo Central software started upon the first desktop load. It is an application that houses a lot of annoying adware, including ads for OneBiz Small Business Mgmt Software and Staples. I was not pleased with this. However, with the exception of Microsoft Office, there were no free trials for anything else installed and the Desktop was clean. This was nice.
Overall, my initial impressions were quite positive. I am proud to own my own ThinkPad, as I have a lot of respect for the product. This laptop is solid and fast, even with its somewhat-dated 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo. It only comes with 3GB of RAM. Generally, you can get more powerful hardware for this price from other brands, but I see it as a trade-off because I wanted a ThinkPad.
I may install the 64-bit Windows 7, but then I will lose all of the Lenovo customizations. Lenovo worked with Microsoft to create an "Enhanced Experience" by shortening boot times and shutdown times. Microsoft says that you cannot "upgrade" to at 64-bit version from a 32-bit version. Instead you must do a complete new installation. Perhaps a dual-boot scenario is what I need. It depends on what I end up doing with this laptop.
For the ThinkPad fan or for someone who wants business-level build quality, this laptop may suit your needs nicely.

I have a white Vaio CS320J. I have had it for 3 months and have had issues with the loud fan noise as well as a rumbling soung in the fan. The computer has overheated and shut off. Took the computer back to the store I bought it and they tried to charge me to have it diagnosed under warranty. I bought an extended warranty on this laptop to prevent issuse like this. I have had problems with Sony products in the past and decided to give them another try. Big mistake. Sony product are poorly manufactured and fall apart within months. I would never buy another Sony product. Do not buy this laptop unless you are okay with wasting hundreds of dollars. I would buy anything else over Sony. ANYTHING.

This system is an excellent combination of portability and power! Check out this line if like me, you've found netbooks wanting.
After migrating from my full-size notebook, all 7lbs of Core 2 goodness, to an Atom based netbook, the tradeoffs for size were cramping my style. My typing slowed, my eyes hated it, and it just wasn't responsive enough. Worse, the 2GB maximum RAM limitation meant running my virtual machines were out of the question. The experience left me discouraged and I fully expected to become one of the last victims of a $1500 ultra-portable.
In contrast, this thing is fast, it has a full-size keyboard, much more useful screen, drives a larger external display (VGA or HDMI(!)), can have 4GB RAM, and has twice the battery life if you don't thrash it. (my previous netbook only had the 3-cell battery). It's all wrapped in a package that appears to most people the same size as the little 10" versions. I can't tell the weight difference if I'm not holding them both at the same time. And the price! The Black Friday discount was minimal but now that I've used it and can compare, I'd gladly re-buy this one at retail. This thing is the netbook for those who can't quite squeeze down to the little N270/280 boxes. Whereas the Atoms feel like a cute attempt at a notebook, running a "sort-of" mobile processor, this thing feels like a real system, but it's small and cheap.
Pros (vs Atom-based netbook)
- See above - speed, screen size, speed, keyboard, RAM, speed, etc.
- Dual-core headroom.
- Touchpad is 50% larger and buttons are separate vs. D250 rocker style.
- The additional indicator lights are always a good thing. Power, charge, bluetooth wifi, HD, Numlock, capslock.
- The integrated video can drive a huge external monitor.
- Windows 7 Home, 64-bit version
- Gb Ethernet.
- N draft WiFi.
Cons & quibbles:
- I prefer matte screens, but this isn't bad for glossy.
- Red color - others were another $50.
- HD mounting and connector are a kludge. HD secured by pressure between pads and external cover. No real lock. Uses ribbon cable adapter to match its 90 degree rotation to board. It isn't going anywhere, but it's a big contrast to the D250's very clean HD mount.
- Keys are completely flat, as is their action. I'm getting used to it.
- Too little space between keys makes it easy to touch-type the wrong keys. It's tough to feel the boundaries.
- Windows COA sticker on bottom was applied slightly off-center and the edges keep peeling.
- Default settings for touchpad make it very easy to accidentally "tap" when typing, sending cursor into the weeds or sometimes doing big unintended edits.
- Power plug (computer end) & socket seem fragile.
- Case material seems a bit fragile. Not a ThinkPad.
- Very slightly noisier than Atom systems. Most noticeable when the fan cycles on and off repeatedly while running something processor intensive.
- WiFi slide-switch fragile & action uncertain.
- No built-in Bluetooth on this model though it does have the BT slide-switch and indicator. Inside, next to the Intel 1000 WiFi card, you can see pads on circuit board where BT socket option might have gone.
- I know I'll wish it had a 4th USB port.
If you're looking for something both smnall AND functional give this thing a try.
(Thank you Acer!)

I've used a D-link directional antenna for a couple of years, for which I paid $16. Recently, I needed a second antenna and bought this one which is cheaper, and claims a slightly better gain (+10dB). I found that:
- the reception was not as good as the D-link
- the cable is shorter
- no adapter is included for TNC connector
Clearly, it was a poor choice, trying to save a few bucks.

The version of this laptop I am currently working on had Vista on it and was unbelievably slow.
Upon trying to do a fresh install of Windows 7 I find that the hard drive controller is not (fully) compatible with Win7 WinXP or any of my bootable partitioning CDs.
Furthermore, upon searching for proper drivers I am primarily met with toshiba forum posts rife with issues around upgrading to windows 7 or downgrading to winxp.
From this experience I would absolutely have to say stay away, if you ever need to do a fresh install of any OS without the original CD/DVDs you will be up a creek without a paddle, absolutely unacceptable.

I just purchased a wireless N router and I didn't want to risk opening up my laptop to put an internal card in. So I originally bought an expansion card, the problem with that was the reception was so bad I ended up using my internal card more than the expansion. I returned that card and decided I would go with the internal. Not only was it cheaper but it took no more than ten minutes to install in my Dell Inspiron. The card worked the second I turned my laptop on with no drivers to install (running XP Pro). Not only that the reception is better than my previous wireless card an Intel WM3945 ABG. I have no complaints about this card, it does what it should and does it well, I consistently getting over 100 mbs wirelessly. The main reason I gave this product a five is that for the price this this is the best option for people looking to upgrade to wireless N and its ease of use. Before you upgrade make sure to check your warranty and make sure that opening up your laptop wont void anything.

It came preinstalled in my Dell E1505. It works virtually in every Wi-Fi you might find. I tested it in 802.11n 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies and works great.
Important: Make sure you get the latest drivers. When I purchased the computer back on February 2007, I had to disable the 802.11n and use 802.11g because the technology was new and the compatibility with my Airport Extreme was bad. Eventually, both the router and the Intel card got firmware updates and worked just fine.

Dell Latitude 100-L laptop Review

Dell Latitude 100-L laptop
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned the 1.8 P4 version for 2 years and I am considering buying one just to have should anything happen to this one. Even by today's standards this is a very good laptop. The ONLY drawback is that there is only 1 USB port and it is 1.1 but that is very easily solved with a $15 PCMCIA card with USB 2.0 ports. This is not a "gamer" laptop but it is a serious workhorse that you can adapt in so many ways to your needs that you can't with most even today. For example, if you tend to need more battery time than the DVD drive (I upgraded my CD to a DVD burner) then just pop out the DVD and pop in an extra battery. Or like in my case I wanted more hard drive so I bought a 100 gig to replace the main hard drive and by doing a little surfing online I found a parts place that sells an enclosure for a second hard drive that fits perfectly into the DVD slot, so since I do not need the DVD very often I have another 100 gig drive in most of the time, how cool is that!? Add to that that it has S video out, vga out plus a keyboard port in case you prefer a regular keyboard when at home. The video is a respectable 32 meg ATI and I have run some games and applications that were not suppose to be able to run on it according to specs. This laptop only accepts 1 gig total memory but under XP that is fine and will keep you moving along smoothly. I ordered mine with the wireless networking card (802.11b but you can buy very cheaply a G card that will go right in to replace the B card or if yours doesn't come with a card you can add one VERY cheaply) and the speeds are so close to my G PCMCIA card that I use the B card built into mine with my G router.
When you really look at just what your getting for a comparable price these days, for everything this one is capable of I cannot recommend grabbing one of these enough, it is sturdy, nice size screen (14.1) and just an overall feeling of confidence in this laptop because it "feels" durable. When these were brand new I'm told you could not by them as an individual as they were only meant for business purchasers.
Bottom line: you want something worth the money this is it no question. Admittedly I put another $200 into mine but that was all upgrades to the memory and DVD and adding another hard drive. As it comes it is an awesome deal in today's market will run rings around many laptops in the same price range.
In case you missed it through all the techie talk, buy this laptop!

This laptop is great. I only have a few issues. I wish the hard drive was faster than 4500 rpm and I wish it had the capability of connecting to a docking station or port replicator. I also really like the labelflash functionality. The laptop comes with 1 labelflash DVD that you can use. The problem is you cannot find labelflash media anywhere so it's basically useless.

Stylishly accented with an onyx blue metallic LCD cover, the Toshiba Satellite A205-S4617 notebook PC is a great blend of multitasking productivity, multimedia prowess, and efficiently powered portability. It features Intel's 4965 AGN wireless LAN, which will connect to draft 802.11n routers and offers compatibility with 802.11a/b/g networks as well. The large, bright 15.4-inch XGA-resolution LCD (1280 x 800) is perfect for viewing multiple application screens or watching widescreen movies on DVD. It's also great for using as a media center, with Toshiba's unique Express Media Player enabling you to bypass the system and access CDs and DVDs with a touch of button. The dual-layer/multi-format DVD drive also burns CDs, and can print labels directly onto discs with the integrated Labelflash functionality.
This notebook is powered by the 1.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 processor (with quicker 667 MHz front-side bus), which offers a 20 percent performance boost over its predecessor while using 28 percent less power--so you get the benefit of a powerful dual-core PC plus all the benefits of mobility. It provides an optimized, multithreaded architecture for improved multitasking performance. It features an extra-large 250 GB hard drive, 2 GB of installed RAM (max capacity), Intel GMA 950 graphics processor with up to 256 MB of shared video memory, an ExpressCard slot, and a 5-in-1 memory card reader. And the integrated WebCam (with built-in microphone) enables easy video conferencing via VoIP and video IM chats.
It comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, which includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center. In addition to easily playing your DVD movies and managing your digital audio library, you'll be able to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV). Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.
The Basics
Processor: The Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 processor has a 1.66 GHz processor speed, super-fast 667 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and large 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
The Intel Core 2 Duo processor has two computational execution cores in a single processor, providing greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It's optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. Some of the advanced Intel innovations of the Core 2 Duo processor include:
Smart Memory Access: Improves system performance by hiding memory latency, thus optimizing the use of available computer data bandwidth to provide data to the processor when and where it is needed.
Advanced Digital Media Boost: Effectively doubles the execution speed for instructions used widely in multimedia and graphics applications.
Dynamic Power Coordination: Coordinates Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology and idle power-management state (C-states) transitions independently per core to help save power.
Deeper Sleep with Dynamic Cache Sizing: Saves power by flushing cache data to system memory during periods of inactivity to lower CPU voltage.

Hard Drive: The extra-large 250 GB Serial ATA hard drive (4500 RPM) provides more than enough capacity for storing documents, digital media files, and productivity software. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.

Memory: The 2 GB of built-in memory (PC5300, DDR2 SDRAM, 2 x 1024 MB) offers a top-of-class 667 MHz speed. It can be expanded to a generous 4 GB, which will enable you to handle video editing, graphics-intensive presentations, and multiple open business productivity applications more efficiently--as well as smoothly play immersive 3-D games.

Intel Wifi Link 5300 Review

I bought the Intel WiFi Link 5300 card to replace the stock card in my Dell Mini 9 netbook. The stock card is b/g only and gave me a lot of trouble associating with my home router. The Intel card arrived promptly and included the Intel ProSet 12 software on CD (though I had already downloaded an updated version from Intel's web site). The card and software installed easily.
The Mini 9 has only two antennas (I have a third on order) so I initially connected the two to the 1 and 2 terminals on the Intel card. It worked well and gave me a strong signal in my house, though sometimes the Wireless N connection was weak. I am sure the third antenna will help with that. No problem associating with my access point and the speed is great.
An easy upgrade if you are dissatisfied with the wireless solution in your netbook or notebook that uses a Mini-PCIe connector. Just make sure that the card size is correct - Intel makes one that's even smaller, but the Dell Mini 9 took this size.
Edit: As I predicted, adding the third antenna brought back the N performance. I'm now running Windows 7 on the Mini 9 and it recognized the Intel 5300 and operates it without the need for additional drivers or the Intel ProSet software, though the software does give you more information about how the card is performing. I'm very happy with the 5300.
Edit 9/30/09 - I've been getting lots of questions about where I obtained the third antenna and how it is installed. The antenna I used is made by Tyco and is typically sold in a pack of two. Amazon doesn't sell it, but if you search eBay for "tyco minipci" you will find many for sale. The pack is typically less than $10. Each antenna consists of a large square foil area, backed by adhesive, and a smaller section with an S-shaped foil trace, which is the actual, radiating part of the antenna. The only difference between the two antennae in the pack is the length of the lead, so pick the one that works best for you.
For best results, the antenna would be mounted inside the display lid of your notebook/netbook, positioned so that the S-shaped trace is not blocked by the LCD panel or metal shielding. It's ok for the adhesive-backed section to be blocked as this is just a "ground plane". The antenna should be as high up on the lid as you can manage, though I've heard from some who just let it lay flat inside the base of their PC and they say it "works fine".
The connectors used are standard but are somewhat fragile. Pull them straight up from the card and push straight down, taking care to align the plug correctly. You may find that long-nose pliers help (but don't squeeze too hard.)
Note that the Intel 5100 card is very similar to the 5300 except that it does not support the 3x3 mode with the very highest transfer rates (and uses only two antennae.) You may find that the 5100 is more than adequate for your needs, especially if your wireless router itself doesn't support the 3x3 mode (few do.)
One more point - both the 5100 and 5300 support Intel's "My WiFi" technology which lets you share Internet access with local WiFi devices. This requires the Intel ProSet driver and application which can be downloaded from Intel's web site - read more details on Intel's site.

Upgrade your Convertable Notebook C-140X or C-140XL or E295C to an N wireless card from Intell. The card part is listed as 4695AGN via www.amazon.com or another vendor if you can find one. Card works Perfectly after I installed it as you can see with this video. As a disclaimer I believe the reason why this works so well is because the motherboard on my laptop is an Intel 965PM or 965GM is the exact same thing. Many laptops with various companies makes and models use this mobo at the current moment so the card should work!!! Make sure you go to the website and update any drivers and not use the CD that comes with the packaging. Lastly, remember don't use the 3rd middle space for your antenna just use the outer 2. 1=white and 2=black. That's it. Make sure the antenna's are in there securely too you will see that can take a while. Now you have N speeds and this will work great with the D-Link 655 N Router!
You can go here, http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_filter.aspx?ProductID=2753 , and update the drivers as soon as you install the card. It will work prior to you installing these driver updates. Wireless Wifi Link Mini Card

Wi-Fi USB Super Antenna Review

I live on the edge of a privately hosted, but publically available WIFI network. With my native laptop wireless, I could pick up signal outside my apartment or if I held my laptop up to my air conditioner (no window on that wall). Needless to say, I knew there had to be another option other than hanging a shelf onto my a/c and standing on a chair to receive the signal. I hung this antenna inside my a/c box, ran the cable through the a/c and VOILA, free wireless access in my apartment! It works.
Unfortunately, it is only compatible with certain mac OS versions and it is not stable. If my computer goes to sleep, the program freezes. Sometimes "Force Quit" works, sometimes it doesn't. If I force quit, I usually have to restart my computer to get the program working again. If I unplug the cable without quitting the utility program, my MAC crashes. IF i restart the computer without unplugging the cable, I can't even access the utility program to get it started.
So, if you're willing to dance the right dance, this is a great option for internet access, but I do wish they would fix their software/driver program to play better with Mac OS.

Living out in the sticks, dialup internet access was what I had to live with for ages. When Verizon added a tower that improved my cell phone coverage, I started wondering if it was an option for my PC as well. I'm not an early adopter of new technology and waited until neighbors had tried various options before I was willing to try this service. I've been using an extra phone line for the computer, the removal of which will save me half what this service costs monthly. Still it's an extra thirty bucks, so it has to be worth it to me.
Some neighbors are using the satellite service but aren't completely satisfied. The only negative comment I got about this little modem and the service was that there is a limit on how much access you get--5 gig/mo--which means you won't be downloading movies or playing internet games much, if at all. Since this isn't an issue for me, I decided to give it a try.
It is definitely faster than dialup access even at the fastest dialup modem speed. I use AOL and the TCP/IP connect is about 3-5 times faster, then all that stuff they display loads much faster as well and I can go about my business without waiting for more than a few seconds. That said, the transfer rate doesn't compare with the Comcast speed of my daughter's setup in town. This service is faster than dialup, but not 'blinding' by any means. As an example, in the past when I tried to download something, I noted the transfer rate on dialup was something like 4-6k per second. Sigh!! Things took forever and sometimes wouldn't download at all. I downloaded the update for my Kindle last night with this little modem and noted 50k/sec transfer rate. Certainly a lot better.
The speed does seem to depend on 'how crowded the air waves' are (or however you'd say that in technospeak :) and how many bars you get. I've found the number of bars is the same as what I get on my Verizon cell phone. Where my desktop PC is located, it varies from 0 to 2. I have ordered the antenna in hopes of boosting that.
Installing the little modem is as easy as running the CD installation disk that comes with it and then plugging the modem into a USB port when prompted to do so. It also comes with a cable in case you want to plug into a port on the back of a desktop PC and set the modem somewhere with easier access. You can leave the modem attached all the time if you want. It turns off when you turn the PC off. When on, it flashes a blue light, which means it's ready to pick up a signal. To connect your computer to the broadband service, you use the modem software (push the 'connect' button), which to me, seems to be equivalent to turning your cell phone on (the modem has a phone number). It is then ready for you to 'make a call', i.e. connect to the internet using some software such as Internet Explorer or AOL.
You can leave the modem connected all day like you would leave your cell phone on and not affect the data limit since that only happens when you are connected to and using the internet. If you use the internet with your cell phone, you know there is a data limit with it as well. This is sort of the same thing.
The modem software will show you what your usage is each time you connect so you're aware of what you've used so far. Sending emails, Facebook updates, photos, etc uses part of your allocation, as well as downloading files, photos, etc. Various internet screen refresh activities uses some. Watching streaming video or playing games uses a lot. Listening to internet radio uses enough that you probably won't want to do that all the time. For me, after 5 days of email, Facebook postings, attempting to watch some short videos and listening to the AOL radio one day just to see what impact it would have, plus downloading the Kindle software update, posting a few Amazon reviews, and the like, I've used about 225mg, or about 50mg a day, so I should be able to stay within the limit easily with no change to my regular internet activities.
I still cannot really watch streaming videos such as those on YouTube with my 1-2 bar connectivity, without breaks while it reloads the next bit. Even though it reloads faster than before, I have to want to see it pretty badly to put up with that.
One concern: This morning there seemed to be a problem with the modem connecting to Verizon. It was resolved within half an hour and it is Black Friday, which may or may not have anything to do with it. I will update if that happens again, but otherwise it has connected fast and remained connected without problem.
Bottom line: It is definitely better than dialup--for me about 5 times faster. That's not seriously fast, but acceptable and worth the extra money to me, especially since I don't have any options other than satellite which is affected by weather, trees, and costs more as well.

Everything turned out fine. It has been over a month now, and so far so good. It was for an upgrade from 802.11g to 802.11n for my laptop Wi-Fi. The signal strength has been boosted from 25-54 mbps to 118-135 mbps (one floor down away from the router with the basement door closed).
If I am to nitpick for something, it will be its structural design. It could've been better. Unplugged and apart from the laptop, it looks pretty and nice by itself. But when it's plugged in, it assumes a look of unstableness and vulnerability. I had to attach a small flat eraser to the bottom side to make it less vulnerable to any accdental downward impact. Otherwise, this is a good, reliable piece of gadget.
I am happy enough to recommend it.

Cisco-Linksys WPC54GX4 Wireless-G Notebook Adapter with SRX 400 Review

I bought the WRT54GX4 yesterday along with a WPC54GX4 PCMIA card for my laptop. My old WRT54G died after 2 3/4 years of service. Linksys will replace the old unit under warranty, but I run a small business and couldn't wait for a replacement. I also found the wireless link between the WRT54G and the WPC54G to be somewhat spotty with the wireless card not catching the router signal all to often so an upgrade was in order anyway.
I installed the WRT54GX4 router with no problem and found that my wired connection had better internet response although I know of no reason why that should be the case. I also tested it with the the laptop with the OLD WPC54G card and the difference was amazing. All of the dead spots in my home were gone, the signal was strong and the transmission rate was inproved. If you want to save a few bucks, but need an improved wireless network, the router will do that even with standard G product in my brief experience.
I next installed the WPC54GX4 card in the PCMIA slot in my laptop. Installation was a breeze. As expected signal strength was strong throughout the house and the data transfer rate was consistantly 240Mbps! To check the range, I put the laptop in the car and concluded I could easily keep connected if I were visiting any of the neighboring houses. The card also picked up a lot of other networks in neighborhood (most of which were not encrypted).
These are not cheap products, but they work and are well worth the money if you want a great wireless network.
