Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I'm on my second unit after the first one had range issues. When I replaced my old G-band router I expected to get better (or at least the same) range with the DIR-655. Unfortunately that was not the case, as my range was effectively cut in half. I made several calls to D-Link and they stepped me through some configuration changes, which did not help. After 3 calls, they told me to return it to Amazon and request a new one. Amazon's exchange policy was quick and painless. With the new router I have the same range as my old G-band model, but the speed is quite a bit better. After setting up the new one, I noticed that it was hardware version A4 as opposed to the first one, which was A2. With all that being said, if you get an A2 model and have issues, you may need to exchange to get a later hardware revision.
As far as the router goes, the setup was ridiculously easy and so far the performance and reliability have been fine. Plenty of features in the firmware to tweak. I haven't messed with the USB port yet, but other reviewers have some complaints on that one. Right now I'll call this a decent router for the price.
